1. This course is mostly over. Can you now identify a value in learning history?

Knowing your history helps because you are able to pick out certain events today that are the same as what happened many years ago, and predict changes in the economy, such as the current recession.

2. Was the United States right to enter World War II, and should we have entered sooner or later?

Yes it was right for the US to enter the war. It was directly affected by it, so sooner or later something needed to be done.

Good. Perhaps "we" or "she" rather than "it" as the pronoun in referring to our nation?  :-).

3. Which of the approaches in American history towards immigration do you like best, and why?

At first, in the 1850s, immigration was encouraged, and that was a good thing, because it helped build up our country and make it what it was. Later on, though, it needed to be restricted because too many people were crossing the border, and today, taking advantage of our benefits without being real citizens. So now, restriction on immigration would be better.

4. Pick out something from the "Roaring Twenties" and describe what you like about it.

I like how women were encouraged to be more outgoing, not that I agree with dressing immodestly, drinking, and drug use, but it changed the view of women as simply something pretty to be seen, as to an independent person.

5. What is your view of the New Deal, and what might you have done differently in response to the Great Depression?

FDR's New Deal was a little over the top, and there really wasn't much that could have been done during the Great Depression except stop printing money and wait for the economy to recover.

6. Do you think we should have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan? Explain.

Yes, I think bombs should have been dropped on Japan, but the US picked bad places, full of civilians, when they should have dropped the bombs on military bases.

Superb, though it may not have had as big an "impact", in the figurative sense.

7. Please interpret and explain the cartoon, including an estimate of its date. (It was published by a paper in New Jersey years ago.)

The artist of the cartoon, probably a Republican (because he sees Roosevelt's power as being 'dictatorial'), depicts Democrats winning much power in the House and Senate, and Roosevelt's victory, and his New Deal. Teddy Roosevelt comments on how his power seemed so small compared to Franklin Roosevelt's. It is somewhat humorous that both Roosevelts are featured in the cartoon. The date of this cartoon was probably around 1932.

H1. Throughout American history, has the president has been becoming more and more of a "leader" or a "follower"? In other words, is the trend towards more of a leadership position for that office, or less of one? Explain.

It seems as though the President has become a follower, following the trends of the people, and the wants of the country, but still, retaining his power as a leader, and dropping in his own ideas.

H3. Discuss any issue, mystery or debate topic from the lecture or time period 1920-1946.

Debate: Do you think we are entering another depression now?

As was announced on the news a few days ago, we are officially in a recession. It seems as if this recession has been happening for a while, and why it took so long to 'officially' realize it is beyond me. We may enter another depression if inflation increases anymore.

Probably "playing politics" delayed the recognition.

H4. Your view of the United Nations, please?

The United Nations seems like a good idea, but it's just another step towards One World Government, which will NEVER be a good thing.
