David Davis (March 9, 1815 – June 26, 1886) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and a senator from Illinois. He was appointed to the Court after campaigning for Abraham Lincoln in the election of 1860. There, his most famous work was the Court's majority opinion in Ex parte Milligan - where David condemned Lincoln's establishment of military jurisdiction over civilians in peaceful areas.[1]
