A vote to recall Eric Christen and Sandy Shakes from their positions on the Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education took place on December 12, 2006.^[1] Christen and Shakes were recalled and replaced by Charlie Bobbitt and Jan Tanner.^[2]

Recall supporter arguments[edit]

Local resident Ann Oatman-Gardner coordinated with board members Mary Ellen McNally and Norvell Simpson to organize the recall effort. The organizers created a group called End the District 11 Chaos to remove Christen and Shakes. The group was unhappy with the board's decision to fire superintendent Sharon Thomas and negotiate a $500,000 settlement.^[3]
