1. How could you have prepared better for the midterm exam, and which part of American history do you think you could improve most for next time?: I definitely think that i can improve my score on the next exam by setting more time aside for studying and by pushing myself harder. And also by not procrastinating so much and setting goals for myself.
2. Which is your favorite question on the midterm exam that you missed, and what do you like about the question or subject matter? : N/A. Mr. Schlafly, I was not able to attend class due to weather conditions. Therefore i have yet to receive back my test which was needed in order to answer this question.
3. Comment on any aspect of the Scopes Trial or the issues leading up to it, and/or can you compare it to any other influential trial in American history? : The Scopes Trial, also known as the "Scopes Monkey Trial" prohibited the teaching of the Bible in any school run by the Government. Instead it insisted on teaching that man descended from animals. The thing i find most interesting about the trial though is how Darrow submitted to Bryan, I don't think we will ever really know the true motive behind this specific action.
4. Do you think the United States should have entered World War I, and why? : Honestly, i really don't have a strong opinion on the matter. I think that trying to avoid war at all costs can be a bad thing. It could end up making the opponent view the US as possibly being weak, which could provoke more violence and lead to stronger attacks on the country. So i think that the United States did need to join the war, for the sake of protecting America's reputation.
5. Your view of Teddy Roosevelt, please. : When President William McKinley was assassinated, VP Theodore Roosevelt took on the task of presidency, and became the youngest President in History. He was very successful as President, and established many new things, such as the National Park system which is very effective in todays environment. He also seemed to be a very down to earth person who wanted to do what was best for America.
6. Pick one of the Constitutional Amendments 16 through 19, and express your understanding and view of it.: Before the 1920's woman were not allowed to vote, and were often looked down upon. It was clear that they were not thought of as being equal with men. The 19th Amendment establishes the right for woman to be able to vote, and voice their opinion freely, just as men are allowed to give theirs. This Amendment is my favorite for many reasons, not only does it give woman the right to help decide what is going to happen with Americas future, i also think it gives woman a higher level of respect in our country.
7. Explain the cartoon: The cartoon portrays President Theodore Roosevelt standing between both Russia and Japan in order to draw up a peace treaty to end the Russo-Japanese War. In 1905, Theodore Roosevelt was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for his successful mediation of the Russo-Japanese War.
