Washington Sees 80 Percent Approval Of Local Measures

Washington: On April 17, residents in twenty-one counties in Washington voted on various local issues. There was a total of forty measures posted on the ballots throughout the state and results posted show that thirty-two of those measures gained approval, 80 percent overall. Of those forty measures, twenty-three dealt with either school bonds or taxes. Out of those school measures, seventeen saw approval by residents, leading to an approval rating of 73 percent. Three of the five school measures which were defeated were school bonds, which are harder to pass as they need a 60 percent super majority of votes. Overall, residents decided on mostly tax measures either to renew or increase support for local departments.

The next election in Washington will be held on August 7.
