American Chemical Society

The American Chemical Society, or ACS, is a non-profit government chartered organization founded in 1876 and chartered in 1937. With over 160,000 members, it is one of the largest scientific societies in the world. Their mission is “improving people’s lives through the transforming power of chemistry” through publications, scientific journals, grants, education, and acting as a mediator between the general public and public policy makers. The ACS has numerous local chapters throughout the United States, as well as several divisions specific to one’s field of expertise, be it organic chemistry, food chemistry, or chemical engineering.
