Coercion is a form of physical deceit, whereby one attempts to force his will upon another person. Coercion, where it leads to a material benefit to the coercer, is illegal, and the law will not honor a contract formed through coercion. Some types of coercion, like blackmail, carry criminal penalties. gangs often try to do this to induct new members and it is a common tactic of cults. As a form of theft, coercion is prohibited by the Ten Commandments.
