Toluene (C6H5CH3) is a colorless liquid of the aromatic group of petroleum hydrocarbons, made by the catalytic reforming of petroleum naphthas containing methyl cyclohexane. It is a high-octane gasoline-blending agent, solvent, chemical intermediate, and a component for making trinitrotoluene (more commonly known as the explosive TNT)
