Bern is the de facto capital city (Bundesstadt ("federal city")) of Switzerland.[1] The city is located along a narrow loop of the Aar River.

Bern was the scene of a disputation in 1528 between Roman Catholics and Protestants that led to its acceptance and subsequent championship of Protestant doctrines.[2]
