The Attack (Tract)

From Conservapedia

The Attack is a religious tract written by Jack Chick. It was originally printed in 1985, and remains an in-stock title. It is listed on their website under the subject "For Christians" and also tagged as "King James Bible".

At the outset, Chick acknowledges the contributions of Alberto Rivera (who claimed to be a former Catholic priest; Rivera's story is widely considered -- even among those who oppose Roman Catholicism -- as a fraud); as such, the tract contains large quantities about Catholicism and its purported attack on the Bible (specifically the KJV and the underlying Textus Receptus; Chick was a noted KJV Only advocate).

A Puritan who was one of the original KJV translators is poisoned (supposedly by the Jesuits, who are often featured as villains in Chick's materials). After recognizing that the initial attack on God's Word was all the way back in the Garden of Eden, the next topic is the Apocrypha which Chick claims was an attempt by Catholicism to support many of its key doctrines such as Purgatory, but Jewish rabbis refused to accept it as part of the Old Testament.

Following another notable KJV Only conspiracy, Chick then claims that scholars from Alexandria, Egypt purposely corrupted God's word, but "True Christians" rejected the translations as bogus. After blaming Catholicism for the Inquisition, Chick then states that the Jesuits secretly attempted to corrupt the translation work which led to the King James Bible, only to be watched at every move (he claims that two Jesuits later became true believers and exposed the plot). Failing that they attempted to add the Apocrypha into the Old Testament which failed (as a compromise it was inserted between the Old and New Testaments, but later removed).

Finally, Chick claims that in a "final attack" against the KJV, two "closet Catholics" (Westcott and Hort) "pressured" other translators to accept the Alexandrian texts, thus creating "The Revised Version" and then Jesuits began to "infiltrate" Protestant seminaries pushing the newer translations.
