Nick DeJ History - Homework Twelve

1. The time frame of the “Cold War” war was 1949 to 1991. The main protagonists of this “war” were the United States and The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Correct!

2. The first war that caused over 50,000 American deaths that happened between 1945 and 1980 was the Korean War. 54,000 American soldiers died in this war. The second war that caused over 50,000 American deaths that happened between 1945 and 1980 was the Vietnam War which had over 58,000 American Deaths. I do not believe we should have entered these wars. I believe in a combination of George Washington’s philosophy that we should not get involved with foreign affairs and Theodore Roosevelt’s philosophy that we, as a civilized nation, need to get involved when injustice is being done. However, nothing good came out of these two wars. These wars, which were supposed to be fought to stop communism from spreading, resulted in many deaths, no change to North and South Korea, and Vietnam becoming a communist country.

Superb insights!

3. My favorite aspect of the Civil Rights Movement is how Congress, realizing that African Americans were not treated as equals to White Americans in this county, passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This Act outlawed discrimination based upon race, religion, color, or gender. No longer could employers deny an African American a job because of his color. People should be hired based on knowledge and ability, not their color.

Terrific answer, may use as a model answer.

4. One of the things Lyndon B. Johnson is known for is pushing through the “Great Society” programs. Many of these programs are the reason that our taxes are so high today. He pushed through Medicare, which established free medical care for everyone over age 65 and Medicaid, which established free medical care for the poor. He started the “Head Start” preschool program for the poor. While I do believe that programs like Medicare are needed, too many abuses occur.

Superb again, and good point about the continuing burden of these programs.

5. What I liked best about the 80th Congress was that they passed the 22nd Amendment. This Amendment is important because it limited the President to two terms in office. It also provided that if the President dies in office and the Vice President takes over, if the Vice President takes over for more than two years of his predecessor’s term, he may be elected more than one more time.

I think you mean "NO more than one more time." Beware the mistakenly missing "not", which reverses the meaning. With that correction, your answer is terrific.

6. I think the most important person between 1945 and 1980 was Earl Warren. He was the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court from 1953 through 1969. He is known for being extremely liberal. He is famous for always being in favor of criminals; he restricted the power of law enforcement. He is also famous for “separating Church and State”; he prohibited praying in public schools.

Superb answer, again good enough to be considered as a model answer.

7. In the 1960s the name used to describe the people that were in charge of the Us Supreme Court Building was “The Warren Court”. This Supreme Court was an “activist court” that extended judicial powers. An example of its activism is when they stopped the prayer in public schools.

Correct, with a powerful example. (note on grammar: "people who," not "people that")
Perfect paper, with several potential model answers! 70/70. Congratulations!!
