The Nevada judicial elections of 2010 consisted of a Primary Election on June 8, 2010 and a General Election on November 2, 2010. See Statewide elections on Ballotpedia for information about other state official elections.

Overview[edit]

  • Two of the justices of the Nevada Supreme Court filed for re-election in 2010, and won by default, as they were both unopposed.
  • There were 18 seats open in the Nevada District Courts.
  • Three seats were open on the Reno Municipal Court.
  • There were several Justices of the Peace up for election in Clark and Washoe Counties.

District Courts[edit]

  • District Court judges run for six-year terms in nonpartisan elections.[2]
  • There were 18 seats open on the Nevada District Courts. Three of them were in the second district and the rest were in the eighth district.[3] Ten of the open seats were newly created for 2010.[4]
District Division Incumbent Details Results
District Two Department 5 Deborah Schumacher Deborah Schumacher was up for re-election. Schumacher was re-elected to the Washoe County Family Court after running unopposed.[5]
District Two Family Division – Department 11 Chuck Weller Chuck Weller was up for re-election. Weller was re-elected to the Second Judicial District Court after running unopposed.[6]
District Two Department 15 David Hardy[7] David Hardy, a Second District Court Family Division judge, ran for the newly created seat on the main court Hardy was elected to this seat after running unopposed.[6]
District Eight Department 26 Bruce L. Gale, Kurt Kay Harris and Gloria Sturman[8] Gloria Sturman (46.77%) and Bruce L. Gale (28.61%) advanced to the general election.[9] Gloria Sturman elected with 60.31% of the vote.
District Eight Department 27 Nancy Allf and Blaine Beckstead[10] New initial term Nancy Allf elected with 70.31% of the vote.
District Eight Department 28 Lucinda Coumou, Jack Howard and Ron Israel[8] Ron Israel (44.13%) and Jack Howard (28.73%) advanced to the general election.[9] Ron Israel elected with 54.30% of the vote.
District Eight Department 29 Kenneth E. Pollock and Susan Scann[10] New initial term Susan Scann elected with 57.43% of the vote.
District Eight Department 30 Michael D. Davidson, Craig Friedberg, Patricia Palm and Jerry A. Wiese[8] Michael D. Davidson (31.56%) and Jerry A. Wiese (31.19%) advanced to the general election.[9] Jerry A. Wiese elected with 50.07% of the vote.
District Eight Department 31 Phil Dabney, Joanna Kishner, Josh Kunis and Marc Risman[8] Phil Dabney (32%) and Joanna Kishner (31.2%) advanced to the general election.[9] Joanna Kishner elected with 50.44% of the vote.
District Eight Department 32 Rob Bare and Ellen Stoebling[10] New initial term Rob Bare elected with 54.15% of the vote.
District Eight Family Division - Department A William Voy Voy was elected to this seat after running unopposed.[6]
District Eight Family Division - Department B Gloria Sanchez Sanchez was elected to this seat after running unopposed.[6]
District Eight Family Division - Department C Steven Jones (Nevada), Maria Maskall and Denise Pifer[11] Steven Jones (Nevada) (42.94%) and Maria Maskall (29.25%) competed in the general election.[9] Steven Jones (Nevada) elected with 53.28% of the vote.
District Eight Family Division - Department D Robert Teuton Teuton was elected to this seat after running unopposed.[6]
District Eight Family Division - Department E Charles J. Hoskin Charles J. Hoskin was up for re-election. Hoskin was re-elected to this seat after running unopposed.[6]
District Eight Family Division - Department F William E. Gonzalez, Ellen J. Bezian and John Eccles[8] William E. Gonzalez (40.66%) and John Eccles (33.44%) competed in the general election.[9] William E. Gonzalez elected with 54.82% of the vote.
District Eight Family Division - Department S Tony Liker, Vincent Ochoa, Greta Muirhead, R. Nathan Gibbs, Ethan Kottler, David Churchill and Rebecca Wallace[12] Vincent Ochoa (26.9%) and Rebecca Wallace (19.40%) advanced to the general election.[9] Vincent Ochoa elected with 52.64% of the vote.
District Eight Family Division - Department T John Jensen, Terrance Marren, Michele Mercer, Gayle Nathan and Carl F. Piazza[8] Carl F. Piazza (22.46%) and Gayle Nathan (20.91%) advanced to the general election.[9] Gayle Nathan elected with 57.45% of the vote.

Reno Municipal Court Department 2 Paul Hickman's term was set to expire this year. Unfortunately, he died two weeks before the election of injuries sustained in a car crash[14]; the vacant seat was filled by appointment. William Gardner was appointed.[15]
Reno Municipal Court Department 3 James Van Winkle and Dorothy Nash Holmes James Van Winkle ran for re-election. Dorothy Nash Holmes won with 56.09% of the vote.[16]

Las Vegas Township Department 2 Joe Sciscento Joe Sciscento was up for re-election. Joe Sciscento
Las Vegas Township Department 3 Tony L. Abbatangelo, Lary G. Lamoreux and Janiece Marshall Tony L. Abbatangelo (40.35%) and Janiece Marshall (32%) advanced to the general election.[9] Janiece Marshall won with 50.27% of the vote.

Las Vegas Township Department 6 William Kephart and Kristine Kuzemka[20] Incumbent Nancy C. Oesterle is retiring. William Kephart won with 58.98% of the vote.
Las Vegas Township Department 7 Karen Bennett-Haron and Robert Kurth[21] Incumbent Karen Bennett-Haron was challenged by attorney Robert Kurth. Karen Bennett-Haron won with 61.68% of the vote.

Las Vegas Township Department 13 Suzan Baucum, Frank Coumou, James Leslie Gubler, Jonathan Schulman and Richard Scow Suzan Baucum (34.58%) and James Leslie Gubler (18.99%) advanced to the general election.[9] Suzan Baucum won with 59.36% of the vote.
Las Vegas Township Department 14 Colby Beck, Conrad Hafen and Bernie Zadrowski Conrad Hafen (41.14%) and Bernie Zadrowski (30.19%) advanced to the general election.[9] Conrad Hafen won with 54.84% of the vote.
Searchlight Township Stanton B. Colton, Richard Faber, Richard Hill and Dave Thompson Wendell Ellis Turner is leaving office. - Dave Thompson (42.98%) and Richard Hill (42.15%) advanced to the general election.[9] Richard Hill won with 53.08% of the vote.
