A slide is a smooth surface, sloping channel or track for sliding, usually inclined. (German: die Rutsche), (Spanish: tobogán), (French: toboggan), (Russian: ледяная дорожка), (Japanese: すべり台 ) .

Also:

In photography, a color positive (transparency) mounted on a cardboard frame so that it can be put in a slide projector.

In music a portamento.

In geology a landslide or the like.

In baseball to drop down and skid into a base to avoid being put out.
