Trowel

A trowel is a small tool used in a variety of small-scale activities.

The common gardening trowel has a pointed, dished blade like that of an elongated miniature shovel. It is designed for small-scale earth moving tasks, such as digging, planting, and weeding.

A pointed trowel (also known as a bricklayer's trowel) has a flat blade and ends at a point and is used in construction tasks, such as applying mortar or plaster. The pointed trowel is also used as an excavation tool by archaeologists.

The bricklayer's trowel is regarded as an important symbol by Freemasons.
