Daughters Of The American Revolution

The Daughters of the American Revolution is a volunteer group of women charged with the promotion of patriotism in the United States. They have chapters in all 50 states.

The official website description of the group: "The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. ^[1]

Eligibility for the group may only be attained if a woman can prove that she is related through blood to someone who helped the U.S. achieve independence. This definition contains such historic patriots as militia members, signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Past and present members include Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Dole, Laura Bush, and Phyllis Schlafly.
