David Williams was a judge on the Second Judicial District Court in New Mexico. He was appointed by Governor Susana Martinez (R) on February 12, 2016, to succeed Judith Nakamura, who was appointed to the New Mexico Supreme Court.[1] He ran for re-election in 2016 but was defeated.

The 84 judges of the New Mexico District Courts are selected in partisan elections to six-year terms. They must compete in yes-no retention elections if they wish to serve subsequent terms.[4]
