Wing

From Conservapedia

Wings are appendages present in birds, bats or insects whose primary purpose is to allow flight. Through quick flapping of the wings, it is possible to move through the air. Some creatures require constant flapping while others, such as eagles, can soar. There are some birds with wings such as ostriches or emus that are unable to fly.

Modern technology has created wings on airplanes to allow for motorized flight. For these vehicles, there is no flapping. While wings are not the mechanisms that allow flight to occur, they are important for stabilization.

Wing can also mean something that extends from a central position. For example, the wing of a building (such as east wing or west wing) extends out from the main sectin of the building. The abstract terms left wing and right wing refer to opposing political beliefs.
