JessieH =) done!

1. This course is mostly over. Can you now identify a value in learning history?

I think it's valuable to know, so that we know where we came from, and how we got here. We know who got us where, and who did what, and what happened when. A lot of countries don't have detailed history text books like we do, and so the great rulers of their countries names will eventually be forgotten, while ours live. The value of learning history is having the knowledge for who we are as a country, and how we got do be the way we are today.

Superb, though I'm not sure why it would be important for the "great rulers" to "live", a concept that sounds a bit like worshiping the earthly rulers. But your answer is very good and I may use your last sentence as a model.

2. Was the United States right to enter World War II, and should we have entered sooner or later?

I think we were right to enter when we did. We only enter AFTER Japan bombed us at Pearl harbor, and before that the war didn't to a huge lot to impact us. Unless we were attacked, (which we were) we should have just stayed out of the fighting countries way, and not get involved.

Good.

3. Which of the approaches in American history towards immigration do you like best, and why?

Uh oh, no answer here?! (Minus 10).

4. Pick out something from the "Roaring Twenties" and describe what you like about it.

I like a lot about it; It was interesting, exiting, and new, so it's hard to pick out just one. But I'll chose all of the technology firsts. Like the first radio broadcast, and the first moving picture, etc. What I like about these things is showing how far we've come in only 80+ years. We've gone from static radios, and black and white soundless television programs, to over 100 radio stations that are all Crystal clear, and hundreds of television channels some in High Definition. Even if america is a bit messed up when it comes to priorities, and standards, at least we know how to thrive.

Excellent!

5. What is your view of the New Deal, and what might you have done differently in response to the Great Depression?

The new deal was all good and well, but that wasn't really the issue. The issue was not making sure people had jobs, it was making sure that there were enough customers at said businesses. Some people were not going to be affected by the new deal, and would still be out of a job, argo, was probably pinching pennies and could not afford a new car, or the gas to put in it, and after awhile, the people working at the car dealerships, and the gas pumps would be out of a job, and we would all be back at square one. It would be a vicious cycle.

Very good summary of the problem! But always be sure to answer the question asked: "what might you have done differently" to solve it? (Minus 1). Superb answer otherwise.

6. Do you think we should have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan? Explain.

Should we have dropped a bomb on Japan? Yes, and no. I think it was our last option, but at the same time it opened a whole new world to weapons that most people never wanted. We also dropped it over a village with regular, innocent people who never deserved to die in war. I think we should have dropped it over a Japanese military station because then we would have wiped out a lot of their army, as well as their weapons. And few, if any civilians would have perished.

Excellent.

7. Please interpret and explain the cartoon, including an estimate of its date. (It was published by a paper in New Jersey years ago.)

think it's showing president Teddy Roosevelt being fed up with dictatorial power, and how his big stick was being crushed by THEIR big stick. Estimation: somewhere around the 1930s.
Pretty good, see model answers. You're right about the date, but also mention FDR. (Minus 1).
Good answers. Score: 58/70.--Aschlafly 08:19, 6 December 2008 (EST)
