Westmorland is a traditional county in north-west England, south of Cumberland and north of Lancashire. The county town is Appleby-in-Westmorland, other towns include Windermere, Kendal, and Kirkby Lonsdale. The county is known for Windermere Lake, the largest lake in England.
In 1974, Westmorland, along with Cumberland and parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire were combined into a new administrative county, Cumbria. However, the area is still called by its traditional name by its inhabitants.
