Veii

From Conservapedia

Veii was the most powerful of the Etruscan city states. It was taken over by the Roman Republic after a 9-year siege from 405 to 396 B.C. under the great Roman leader Marcus Furius Camillus. The Etruscans and the Romans would continue to fight in various conflicts for many more years.

Despite being located ~20 km northwest of Rome, its ruins were not re-discovered until the 1840s.[1]
