Three presidential debates are scheduled between President Donald Trump and the Democrat nominee Joe Biden. The first of these debates was held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

Amid unexplained fluctuations in performance by Biden during the campaign, Trump has called for Biden to be tested for medications either before or after the debate. Trump has agreed likewise to be tested.

Two days before the first debate, Trump tweeted:

I will be strongly demanding a Drug Test of Sleepy Joe Biden prior to, or after, the Debate on Tuesday night. Naturally, I will agree to take one also. His Debate performances have been record setting UNEVEN, to put it mildly. Only drugs could have caused this discrepancy???

1st debate[edit]

The first debate was held on September 29, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio and moderated by Chris Wallace. In it, Trump and Biden debated over many issues, though such were limited solely by Wallace in his own admission, and was previously suspected of political bias against Trump due to omission on the issues of abortion, foreign policy, immigration, etc.[1]

Biden made several false claims during the debate and fumbled at times, notably having had an arguably weaker energy throughout compared to Trump. The former vice president and even Wallace repeated the discredited "very fine people" hoax,[2] as well as the notion that Trump supposedly told people to "inject bleach".[3]
