A Pavlova is a dessert comprising a meringue base and whipped cream and garnished with sliced fruit (typically strawberries, bananas, or kiwi fruit), and sometimes passionfruit pulp. Other toppings sometimes used include chocolate shavings.
The dessert, popular in Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain, was named after Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, and was reportedly invented by Herbert Sachse, the chef of a hotel in Perth, in 1935, although many New Zealanders falsely claim it was invented in New Zealand.[1]
