Habor

From Jewish Encyclopedia (1906)

Habor:

River flowing through the land of Gozan; the classical "Chaboras." To the banks of this river Tiglath-pileser carried "the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah and Habor" (I Chron. v. 26). In the ninth year of King Hoshea, Shalmaneser "took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan" (II Kings xvii. 6, xviii. 11). Habor is identified with the modern Khabur.
