Dark Horse Stages (formerly Dark Horse Studios) is a film studio based in Wilmington, North Carolina. It was founded in 2020 by Kirk Englebright and hosts TV and feature films.[1]
Dark Horse Stages began operations as Dark Horse Studios in 2020.[1] In 2021, the company helped generate a record number in film revenue in North Carolina of more than $416 million.
In 2022, the company announced that it’s planning to expand by adding two new modern state-of-the-art sound stages.[1]
In 2023, the company announced plans to expand its facilities by adding more stages to increase capacity. In August 2023, the company held its “Groundbreaking Ceremony”. The event was attended by Governor Roy Cooper and Jonas Pate.[2]
By 2024, Dark Horse Stages became the first film studio in North Carolina to offer "Smart Stage" technology.[3][4][5][6][7] In 2024, Kirk Englebright, the founder of Dark Horse Studios, announced the company's rebranding and its new identity as Dark Horse Stages.[8][4][9] The company also announced the completion of its previously announced new, state-of-the-art sound stages in 2024.[4][5][6][7][9][10][11][12]
