An effort in Filer, Idaho, to recall Mayor Rick Dunn and City Council members Christina Hatch, Ruby Allen, and Gary Deitrick from their positions was launched in July 2017. A group called Save Filer Police Department submitted approximately 230 signatures for each targeted official to the city clerk on August 28, 2017.[1][2] The Twin Falls County Clerk concluded that there were insufficient valid signatures to require a recall election.[3] The mayor also serves as a member of the city council.
The entire city council was targeted for recall in 2014. This effort did not reach the ballot due to a lack of sufficient signatures.
Recall supporters[edit]
Recall organizers sought the removal of four out of the five council members due to allegations of a lack of transparency and failure to seek input from the community. The effort also followed the council's 3-1 vote on July 18, 2017, to fire police chief Tim Reeves. Russell Sheridan was the lone vote against firing Reeves and he was not targeted for recall. There was no public rationale for firing Reeves though the council supported keeping the department after the county sheriff presented the option to disband the department as a cost-saving measure.[1]

Recall organizers needed at least 195 signatures from city voters for each targeted official to require a recall election. The deadline to file signatures was August 28, 2017. Twin Falls County Clerk Kristina Glascock had to verify that the minimum signature threshold was reached before an election was scheduled.[1][4]
