Germano Studios

Germano Studios is a music recording studio facility in New York City owned and operated by Troy Germano (former CEO of The Hit Factory New York, Miami & London).

History[edit]

In 2008, Germano opened Germano Studios as the newest addition to the renowned family of recording studios, The Hit Factory. Germano used his expertise to transform the site of the former Platinum Island studios into an intimate state-of-the-art music recording and mixing facility for both records & film soundtracks. The studios were designed by Germano and his longtime design collaborator David Bell of White Mark Limited England. Together they re-designed the two rooms, thus creating a new Studio 1 and Studio 2 for stereo and surround mixing. "We really tried to keep it true to the original footprint, but improve upon it. I wanted the large speakers to be true and accurate and I wanted people to be able to listen on near-fields and know where the mixes were."^[1] The studios underwent a 10-month renovation and officially opened on May 12th, 2008 with sessions for Matisyahu in Studio 1 and Alicia Keys in Studio 2. Both control rooms have SSL Duality 48 input analog consoles. In addition, EXIGY S412G monitors, extensive outboard gear and a long list of plugins^{[2] [3]} The studios are both equipped with large Avid PT Ultimate 2020.5 HDX3 64/64 Pro Tools systems, each with Apple Cylinders and Sonnet expansion chassis. This new facility is located in the middle of NoHo, next to New York University. Studio 1 was designed for cutting basic band tracks, recording vocals and mixing. Studio 2 handles various overdub sessions, writing sessions, recording vocals and mixing for both stereo and 5.1 surround for film.^[4]  Historic albums that were recorded and/or mixed at this location include "Astroworld" by Travis Scott, "21" by Adele, "Yeezus" by Kanye West,  "Cross Eyed Heart" by Keith Richards, "Blonde" by Frank Ocean, "Clapton" by Eric Clapton, "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga, "Uptown Special" by Mark Ronson, "Hollywood Is Bleeding" by Post Malone, "Vibras" by J Balvin, "Eternal Awake" by Lil Uzi Vert, "Queen" by Nicki Minaj and "DAMN." by Kendrick Lamar.^[5] The biggest selling/biggest streaming songs recorded at the studios include "All Of Me" by John Legend, "Sicko Mode" by Travis Scott, "Halo" by Beyonce, "Moves Like Jagger" by Christina Aguilera & Adam Levine, "Born This Way" & "Edge Of Glory" by Lady Gaga, "Living In A Ghost Town" by The Rolling Stones and "Baby" by Justin Bieber & Ludacris.

In 2019, the studios were re-branded Germano Studios I The Hit Factory after Germano reacquired The Hit Factory name, trademark, IP and brand from his family's estate in late 2018.

The consoles are a pair of Solid State Logic Duality  Delta 48 channel consoles for recording and mixing in Studio 1 and Studio 2.^[6] Both rooms are equipped Avid Pro Tools PT Ultimate 2020.5 HDX3 64/64 systems with Apple Mac Pro Cylinder 8-Core computers, Sonnet expansion chassis, Avid HDX processing cards, Avid HD I/O. The plugin list consists of Waves Mercury, Universal Audio UAD Ultimate 7, Avid, Abbey Road Collection, RealVerb-Pro, Eventide, FabFilter, Antares, Audio Ease, Focusrite, IZotope, McDSP, Massey, Metric Halo, Native Instruments, Relab, Softube, Soundtoys, Steven Slate/Slate Digital, TC Electronic, Xfer Records, Klangheim, Source Connect. The monitoring systems are EXIGY S412G monitors with custom dual 18" subwoofers, designed by Matt Dobson. The near field/mid field speakers/PA are Germano Acoustics APS AEON 2 active monitors, ADAM S3 S-Series active monitors, Avantone CLA-10A active monitors, Avantone CLA-10 passive monitors, Yamaha NS-10M Studio passive monitors, Avantone MixCube active & passive monitors, KRK Rockit 7 monitors, SONOS monitoring, RCF NX-12 SMA.
