The Wyoming Coalition for Open Government (WCOG) is a group formed in January 2009 in Wyoming to advocate for open government. Jim Angell is the founder. The organization is a coalition made up of members from the Press Association, Wyoming newspapers, the League of Women Voters, the Associated Press and the Equality State Policy Center.^[1]

The coalition's acting president, D. Reed Eckhardt, explains the mission of WCOG: "Really, it's about educating people to use their government," Eckhardt said. "One of our concerns is it always ends up being perceived by the public as a press issue because the Press Association is involved or the newspaper is involved. It's our hope that residents will come to realize that it's bigger than that. The issues affect more than just a newspaper or just a TV station."^[2]

The group will give out such prizes as "First Amendment Hero" for groups or individuals that promote government transparency and the "Black Hole" award, for groups or individuals that violate the transparency of government.^[3]
