Hedges in England

A hedge or hedgerow is a line of closely spaced shrubs or similar plants designed to mark a boundary or create a barrier to entry. Hedges may be used in place of fences in certain areas. As they are comprised of living plants they require regular maintenance (intervals depend on the plant species in question) to avoid becoming overgrown.

Hedges are common in England. In France during World War II, hedgerows, made the Battle of Bocage difficult to fight, as soldiers could hide in hedges that lined the roads.
