1. Identify two weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation: Foreign Policy and Financial troubles were the two major weaknesses with the Articles of Confederation. Its biggest weakness was foreign policy.

Excellent.

2. Identify the first three Articles of the Constitution, and what each Article establishes: The first article is the Legislative Branch, which is in charge of making the laws. Next is the Executive Branch, which carries out the laws. And last is the Supreme Court which interprets all the laws.

Superb. Will use as a model answer.

3. Explain what you like most about George Washington: George Washington had some pretty amazing qualities, and has been an inspiration throughout history in many ways. He was never selfish and was always trying to do what he thought was best for his country. Also, the fact that he was the first president should earn him some respect. George Washington was an amazing leader and is still recognized because of it to this day.

Good.

4. Describe the most important invention of the 1790s, and its political impact: In 1793, Eli Whitney invented the miraculous machine called the cotton gin. It was invented to separate cotton from its original branch and seeds. The machine made a tremendous difference in the south. It took place of 50 work men, and turned the south into a powerful economic force. The south then became the primary source of cotton reproduction in the world.

Excellent.

5. Explain the political view expressed by this week's cartoon, and which side of what issue the cartoonist likely represents: In January of 1788, the cartoon titled “The Federal Superstructure” appeared in the Massachusetts Centinel. The cartoon provides a picture of six pillars, each representing a state. The sixth pillar which represents Massachusetts is being raised up by a hand to its upright position. The cartoon originally ran with an article about the New York Assembly's plan to hold a convention in order to discuss ratification of the Constitution.

Good, but explain how the other pillars had already ratified the Constitution. (Minus 1).

6. Describe two significant achievements of The Northwest Ordinance: The Northwest Ordinance was the most important acheivment of the confederation. It established a way to create new states in a peaceful and orderly manner, and established a three-stage process based on population for new states to be created and join the confederation of colonies. It was the first to protect territories against the taking of property by government without just compensation, and was later on enacted as part of the fifth admendment. The Northwest Ordinance was a huge sucess.

Very good, but improve the spelling (I see three misspelled words).

7. Describe what you think was most significant about John Adams' presidency: The most significant thing about John Adams presidency would probably be the Alien&Sedition Acts. Adams was not one who could handle critism well, and by signing the Alien&Sedition Acts it gave him complete authority over immigrants and made it a crime to critize any of the high government officals, such as Adams.

Superb; again, please improve spelling.
Well done! Score: 69/70.--Aschlafly 18:32, 4 October 2008 (EDT)
