Iowa State University is a public university located in Ames, Iowa. It was founded in 1856, and was designated as a land grant college under the Morrill Act signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. The team is athletically affiliated with the Big 12 Conference, and its mascot is the Cyclone.
Controversy[edit]
In 2007, the university was criticized for denying tenure of astronomy professor Guillermo Gonzalez, allegedly because of his acceptance of intelligent design. Additionally, news broke in 2016 that Iowa State University was requiring students to sign off on their "harassment policies" in order to graduate. However, this document specifically cited the first amendment right to free speech as a possible violation of the policy. The Alliance Defending Freedom sued them in the case of Dunn v. Leath over this illegal action.[2]
