This page was a running count of incumbent members of state legislatures who did not run for re-election in the 2012 state legislative elections.

During the 2010 legislative elections, a total of 1,140 incumbents did not run for re-election (18.6% of all seats up for election). However, in 2010, Ballotpedia staff did not count how many of those 1,140 incumbents retired in order to seek a different office. In 2012 Ballotpedia staff counted 1,118 incumbents who did not run for re-election in the 2012 elections. Of those 1,118, there were 310 who ran for election to a different office.
