Ss Great Britain

The SS Great Britain is an iron steamship built in the British city of Bristol in 1843. It was built by the Great Western Steamship Company under the supervision of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. This ground-breaking vessel set the standards for shipbuilding in the modern era.^[1]

At the time of her construction, she was the largest ship afloat and the first ocean going to be propella driven.

It was built for transatlantic passenger travel and was launched on the 19th of July, 1843 in the presence of Prince Albert.^[2] Her first transatlantic trip was on the 26th July, 1845, with a crossing that took only 14 days.
