Lexington, Kentucky

Lexington is the second largest city in Kentucky, after Louisville, and is the seat of Fayette County. The city is home to several colleges and universities, including flagship University of Kentucky, and elite private school Transylvania University.

Lexington is a generally liberal city in conservative Kentucky, though not as liberal as Louisville. Fayette County, where Lexington is located, is one of two Kentucky counties that Hillary Clinton won in 2016, and Lexington has one of the highest rates of people holding bachelor's degrees in the United States.

The current mayor of Lexington is openly homosexual Jim Gray, a Democrat, who lost the 2016 US Senate race to Republican Rand Paul.

Lexington is the home of the American Civil War and U.S. South historian, Charles P. Roland.
