Mirjam Vukašin known professionally as Miriiam, is a Croatian singer and songwriter. She sings and writes in English, and her music fits within the genres of indie, indie folk, folk-rock, Americana, and pop-country.
Miriiam started writing lyrics in high school, but rose to prominence with her debut studio album Call Me Up in 2021, which earned her the Rock&Off award for Breakthrough of the Year, for the Best New Artist of the Year in Croatia.[1]
She released her second album, Alright, in 2024.[2]
Her music is being played on Croatian radio stations like Hrvatski Radio, Radio Sljeme, and Yammat FM. Also, it has been featured on radio stations in the USA, Australia, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the UK, Brazil, Italy, Sweden, Spain, and Portugal.[3]
Miriiam has performed in many clubs in Croatia and abroad, and has also played at festivals such as INMusic,[4] Motovun Film Festival, Let's Rock, Hoomstock, Mudri Brk Festival, and TamTam.[5]
Miriiam released her first single "King on the Road" in 2017.[6]
She released her first EP, Heavyless, in 2019 under her own label. It features five songs: Heavyless, I Listen, Grow&Flip, Indian Tent, and Let Me Lay.[7]
She released her debut LP, Call Me Up, in 2021 under the Basic & Rough label. It includes the singles Knot, Stella, and Simple-Minded Love, all of which have music videos.[8]. In addition to the singles, the album features the songs Don't Look Back, Trick, Turn The Pages, Is It Your Son, Call Me Up, Midnight, and Long Drive.[9]
The arrangements and production were done by Toni Tkalec and Edvin Đerahović, who, among other bands, play in the band Pavel. The album was performed with drummer Daniel Kadijević, trombonist Antun Aleksa (part of the JEBOTON ensemble, Porto Morto band, and his own music project IDEM), and backing vocals by Tara Jelovac and Hana Blažević. The piano and accordion were played by Fran Šokić from the band Soulfingers, keyboards by Jurica Hotko from the band Pavel, and the pedal steel guitar was played by Davor Rodik from the band Majke.[10]
In 2022, the album earned her the Rock&Off award in the category of Breakthrough of the Year.[11]
Many Croatian media outlets selected the album as the best album of the year.[12][13]
She released her second LP album, Alright, in 2024, also under the Basic & Rough label. The singles from the album are Mom Knows Best,' Feather, and Alright, all of which have music videos. As with all her other albums and songs, the lyrics are written by Miriiam, while the music is co-written with Edvin Đerahović and Toni Tkalec. In addition to their involvement in production and arrangements, Toni played acoustic guitar, and Edvin played electric guitar. Also featured are Danijel Kadijević and Kristian Orešić on drums, Marino Vinja on bass, Vinko Puclin on double bass, Ivana Galić, Tara Jelovac, and Josip Radić as backing vocals, Hana Paraušić on harp, Matej Milošev on cello, Jurica Hotko on keyboards, and Marko Gudelj on saxophone. The album was recorded at Penthouse Studio.[14]
The album Alright by Miriiam in 2025 earned her three nominations for the Independent Music Journalism Awards in Croatia, in the categories of Album of the Year, Audience Award [15] ,and Pop Artist of the Year. [16]
Music critics have characterized Miriiam using a variety of terms, including americana, pop-country,[17] indie rock, folk rock and retro pop.[10]
Her songwriting has been compared to Lanie Lane, Caitlin Rose, Shilpe Ray, PJ Harvey.[10], as well as Taylor Swift[17]
