The splendid woodpecker (Campephilus haematogaster splendens) is a bird in the family Picidae usually considered conspecific with the crimson-bellied woodpecker (Campephilus haematogaster), although some taxonomic authorities consider it a distinct species. It is found in western and north-western Ecuador, south-western and western Colombia and eastern and northern Panama. Favoured habitats are humid and wet forest or montane forest from lowlands to 1,600 metres.[1]
