- Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor was the first of three Popeye special extended-length shorts (with a run time of over 16 minutes each) to be produced by Fleischer Studios, as well as the first color Popeye short.
- This short was selected for archival in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
- Special effects artist Ray Harryhausen mentioned in an interview that Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor was a major influence when he created the special effects for the 1958 adventure film The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, which he also co-produced.
