Russo-Japanese War

The Russo-Japanese War was a short conflict between the Empires of Russia and Japan from 1904-05 over trade rights in Manchuria and Korea. The Japanese declared war and attacked the Russian Far East Fleet at Port Arthur (now Lüshun, China), with the loss of the battle (and eventually the war) on the part of Russia reduced public support of Czar Nicholas II. The war's effects on Russia would contribute to the social turmoil that would culminate in the Russian Revolution and also gave Japan a more respected reputation in Europe, while cutting down on Russia's own for losing to a non-European power. .

President Theodore Roosevelt won the coveted Nobel Prize in 1906 for brokering the peace between Russia and Japan.
