From Conservapedia Salem Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: SALM) is an American media conglomerate.
According to Salem's FY2018 10-K[1], the company's operating focus is on Christian and conservative media content.
Salem classifies its holdings in three business segments: broadcasting, digital media, and publishing.
Salem's largest holding is its collection of radio stations: as of December 31, 2019 it owned 115 stations including 73 in 23 of the American top 25 markets. The majority of its stations are classified as "Christian Teaching and Talk" (39 stations, many of which are branded as "The Word"), "News Talk" (33 stations, many of which are branded as "The Answer", but all of which focus on conservative political views and family values), and "Contemporary Christian Music" (13 stations, many of which are branded as "The Fish"). Other, minor holdings include Spanish Christian Teaching and Talk, Business, Country, Urban, Classic Hits, and Wellness.
In addition, it owns the SiriusXM channel FamilyTalk (channel 131), which broadcasts Christian teaching and talk programs, as well as the Salem Radio Network, which develops and produces programming for Christian and family-themed talk radio stations affiliated with the network, some of which are Salem holdings.
Salem notes that approximately 35% of its broadcasting revenue is concentrated in two media markets: Dallas and Los Angeles.
In this segment, Salem owns numerous websites under the Salem Web Network (Christian content sites including Godtube), Townhall Media (conservative websites, including Townhall.com, RedState, Hot Air, and Twitchy, Salem Church Products (websites providing resources for churches and ministries including ChurchStaffing.com), and digital financial websites/publications, as well as digital mobile applications both Christian and conservative talk.
Publishing holdings include Regnery Publishing (traditional publishing), Salem Author Services (self-publishing), and Singing News (the premier publication covering the Southern Gospel industry).
