American History Homework Eleven 11/25/08 Olivia F.

1. A value of learning history is understanding other people’s mistakes and attempting not to repeat them.

Superb.

2. The United States had a right to enter WWII; we were attacked by Japan, therefore, we had a right to defend ourselves.

Simple and perfect. Logic at its best.

3. In American history, the approach to immigration that I liked best was in 1891, the Immigration and Naturalization Service because the immigrants had to go through screening, medical tests, and oaths of allegiance.

Superb, will use as a model!

4. One of the inventions created during the Roaring Twenties was the band-aid. Earle Dickinson, an employee of “Johnson & Johnson”, had a very accident-prone wife. Earle finally came up with the idea of having a strip of tape with a small piece of gauze in the middle. He later began to sell the idea, and in 1924, “Johnson & Johnson”, installed machines to mass-produce the new invention.

Terrific again, will also use as a model!

5. I think that while FDR was trying to help the economy and the unemployed, the New Deal was not a good idea; the jobs only lasted a little while. I really have no idea how I would have responded to the Great Depression if I were the president.

Fantastic.

6. I believe in the short-run, to end the war, it was worth dropping bombs on Japan; however, by doing that we unwittingly gave the blueprints of the bomb to our enemies. Therefore, it was not worth it in the long-run.

The leaking of the secrets was not due to the dropping of the bomb, but its development. But your point remains a good one.

7. This cartoon, drawn between 1932 and 1944, depicts Theodore Roosevelt looking on as two large clubs are being delivered to the White House. One from the House of Representatives named Dictatorial Power and another from the Senate. I believe this cartoon is showing that Theodore Roosevelt is worried about FDR’s dictatorship.

Very good, but mention the New Deal. See the model answers. (Minus 1).

H1. At the beginning American history, the president was more like a “follower”, listening to people’s thoughts and ideas, and then trying to apply them. However, nowadays, the president has become more of a ruler, not listening to other people’s comments.

H3. “What caused the Great Depression?” I don’t believe it was just one thing which caused the Great Depression, nor did it happen within several months.

OK.

H4. While I think the founders of the UN had a good motive, the whole concept was faulty. Leaders, especially corrupt ones, need to have a higher authority to keep them in line.

Absolutely right. Well done!
Terrific homework, with two model answers! 99/100. Superb!--Aschlafly 19:53, 6 December 2008 (EST)
