Nikon

Nikon is a camera company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company was founded in 1917. In addition to cameras and lenses, Nikon also manufactures and markets rifle scopes, binoculars, scanners, and other optical equipment. Nikon camera lenses are usually branded Nikor, a Nikon subsidiary. Nikon makes and markets a wide range of consumer and professional digital cameras and lenses. As of 2011, the only film-based camera still in production is the F-6. Nikon ended production of lenses for photographic enlargers and for large-format cameras in the 1990s. Some Nikon cameras and lenses from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s are collectors items, commanding high prices. Nikon is substantially smaller than its principal rival in the consumer camera market, Canon.
